Personality:Athrun is an icon of loyalty. Everything he does is based on his loyalty to his friends and loved ones. However, this same loyalty often gets Athrun into trouble, confusing him when his friends chose different sides. He is understanding of most people’s situations, though he doesn’t always see the whole picture, which complicates his confusion further. Athrun seems to believe in most people and develops a sense to protect anyone he meets. His kindred spirit is at times trampled over because certain individuals including his father and Chairman Durandal manipulate him. However, with a few decisive words from his former fiancée, Lacus, Athrun soon finds the path that he wants to follow, which ends up alongside Kira, Lacus, and Cagalli.

Relationships:Athrun is closest to Kira and Cagalli throughout both wars, though he meets and gives loyalty to so many others. Kira is Athrun’s best friend from childhood and probably understands Athrun the most, even though, they often disagree on things, causing them to fight one another instead of side by side. That tends to be a natural happening between guys that are more like brothers than anything. Athrun falls for Kira's sister, Cagalli, hard and she never once left his mind, as evidenced by the times he thought he had lost her. They both fought to protect the other, even though in the second war, it led them to different sides in the beginning. That separation was caused by their intense desire to protect the other and the other's dreams. Their relationship is by far, complicated. They love each other to the very end, but at the same time, can’t be with one another until they accomplish their dreams. At the end of Destiny, they both experience a depression over each other as well as determination to fight for peace. In my opinion, Athrun will always love Cagalli in a way that no one else can take the place in his heart that she holds. As far as Lacus, Athrun never stopped caring for her either, but his feelings, like hers, changed. They have more of a sibling love, where Lacus tends to be the one guiding him. Athrun respects Lacus in so many ways: she is strong in her beliefs, yet cautious in what she decides to believe, and she helped to heal Kira, Athrun's closest and dearest friend. During the first war, Athrun was closest to Nicol, who out of Athrun’s comrades, acted the most like Kira. Shinn, through tough love, becomes like Athrun’s younger brother, challenging Athrun like younger brothers tend to always do. Meer and Meyrin both seem to hold a crush for Athrun, but Athrun feels more an obligation to protect them than anything else, much like Kira’s obligation to protect Fllay, though under different circumstances. Meer was an adoring fan of Lacus’s and because of which, was manipulated, causing Athrun to feel as if he needed to save her. Meyrin, on the other hand, helped save Athrun’s life and thus owes her a debt in his mind due to his honorable personality.

SEED Mode: Athrun was the first to control his SEED Factor in a way where he could SEED whenever he needed, though a couple times, he SEEDED out of anger and adrenaline, especially when he tried to kill Kira for killing Nicol. However, at the same time, Athrun seems to SEED less than either Kira or Shinn, most likely because he can fight fine without it. In Destiny, though, I think he SEEDS less because he is often confused in battle, not really knowing what the right path is. Once he knows his path, he is a collected fighter who can control when he does and does not SEED.
