Cagalli Yula Athha: The Record

Born on: May 2007

Gundam Seed:

Cagalli is a Natural and princess of the neutral nation of Orb. She is known as the Lionness of Orb, adopted daughter of the Lion of Orb, Lord Uzumi Nara Athha, although her adoption remains a secret. She is also the twin sister of Coordinator Kira Yamato, although this also remains a secret, even to the two of them until late into the first Bloody Valentine War.

She is first introduced on Heliopolis, but as no more than a mysterious girl, who is saved by Kira during an attack upon Heliopolis by Zaft. Cagalli discovers the five prototype Gundam suits and cries out that her father has betrayed them all, bringing further mystery into her character. She is forced inside a lifepod by a boy she runs into while on Heliopolis when the prototype suits are stolen.

Cagalli reappears later as a member of the Natural resistance group in North Africa known as Desert Dawn, led by Sahib Ashman. To the group, she is referred to as their Goddess of Victory, because of her significance in the success of their missions. The Archangel runs into the group, reuniting Cagalli with Kira. When ZAFT attacks the town of Tassil under the command of the Desert Tiger, Commander Andrew Waltfeld, member of Desert Dawn, including Cagalli, chase after the ZAFT units. Cagalli's friend, Ahmed El-Fasi, is killed and Cagalli herself ends up in grave danger, but is saved through the efforts of Ledonir Kisaka and Kira. Cagalli argues with Kira over her actions afterwards. A little later, Cagalli, accompanied with Kira, goes to retrieve supplies in a nearby town. They run into Andrew Waltfeld himself, who invites them to his place after they help him take down some Blue Cosmos terrorists after his life. Cagalli is bathed and dressed in an elegant dress shocking Kira that she can indeed look like a girl. Andrew then confronts Kira about the war, and that they will remain enemies if Kira continues to fight with the Earth Alliance. Cagalli and Kira are let go after their mutual understanding, and they return to the Archangel.

After Kira defeats the Desert Tiger, the Archangel heads to the neutral nation of Orb, and Cagalli accompanies them. It is during this time that Cagalli starts to understand Kira a little more and they become close. While traveling over the Indian Ocean, ZAFT forces engage the Archangel, and Cagalli boards a skygrasper to protect the Archangel, but she ends up getting shot down. Marooned on a small, uninhabited island, Cagalli starts to wander around and stumbles upon a ZAFT red. Cagalli shoots at the soldier, but is quickly overtaken and taken prisoner by the pilot. The pilot releases her bonds after believing her not much of a threat. They argue over their viewpoints of the war, but never agree, so a truce is called between them. When they are rescued by their respective sides, they leave each other in order to keep the other's presence secret. Cagalli inquires the pilot of his name, who reveals that he is Athrun Zala.

Afterwards, Cagalli helps the Archangel receive entrance into Orb by revealing that she is Cagalli Yula Athha, daughter of Orb's chief representative and princess of Orb. After a time, the Archangel decides to leave Orb. Cagalli says goodbye to Kira, telling him that he can't die. Sometime later, after a near fatal battle between the Strike and Aegis near the border of Orb, Cagalli sets out to find Kira, but instead is shocked to find an unconcious Athrun Zala. She treats his wounds and then precedes to interrogate him about what happened to Kira. When she learns that Athrun killed Kira because Kira killed one of Athrun's friends, Cagalli, in tears, lectures Athrun that killing because someone killed would never lead to peace. Cagalli realizes that Athrun is remorseful for killing his best friend, and gives him her red amulet, telling him that she doesn't want anybody else to die right before Athrun is released back to ZAFT.

When the defected Archangel later returns to Orb, Cagalli is relieved to find Kira very much alive. During a battle against forces from Blue Cosmos, an extremist Natural group within the Earth Alliance, who are bent on destroying Orb, Athrun returns to Orb to confront Kira. Cagalli relieves the tension between the two while running up to them to hug them. As Blue Cosmos continues to threaten Orb, Cagalli's father evacuates Orb, and sends a crying Cagalli into space in the Kusanagi. This is the last time Cagalli sees her father. In space, with Onogoro burnt and her father gone, Cagalli fights to regain her composure to confront Kira about a picture her father gave her in his last moments with her. She reveals to Kira and Athrun that she and Kira are siblings.

In the final stages of the war, Cagalli comforts Athrun as he tries to come to terms with his father's actions regarding the Plants. A romantic relationship starts to develop between the two and Cagalli proclaims to Athrun during the final battle that she will pilot the Strike Rouge to protect him. Athrun kisses Cagalli after responding that they can protect one another. Cagalli saves Athrun from staying inside the Justice while it self detonates inside the GENESIS, and together, they find Kira inside her Strike Rouge at the end of the First Bloody Valentine War.
