Gundam Seed Destiny - Plot Summary

Set two years after the end of the first Bloody Valentine War, the Earth Sphere and Plants are once again at odds with the other, due to the Break the World Incident. Conspiracies on both sides begin to develop as Logos, an extremist group from Blue Cosmos and the clever Chairman Durandal of the Plants subtlely lead mankind once again to war. The remains of the previous war leaves its orbit and begins to plummet toward the Earth, but was it accidental or caused? Video images find their way into the hands of the leader of Logos, who reveals to the world that the Coordinators purposely tried to destroy the Earth, causing many Natural nations to once again join the Earth Alliance against the Plants.

Athrun Zala leaves Orb and fiancee Cagalli Yula Athha, now Chief Representative of Orb, to investigate the Plants, but soon finds himself once again part of the ZAFT Military as a Faith Member on ZAFT's new battleship, the Minerva. Hot shot Shinn Asuka, bitter towards Orb for causing the death of his family, immediately assumes the worst of Orb when the Earth Alliance draws Orb to join them against ZAFT.

Another conspiracy begins to develop as a Lacus Clyne look-a-like is introduced to the Plants to subtely lead the Plants in good favor with Chairman Durandal, who is secretly leading the Plants to war against the Naturals, more importantly, Orb. Assassination attempts by ZAFT Special Forces upon the real Lacus Clyne soon follow, causing Kira Yamato to once again take up arms in the newly constructed Freedom Gundam. Kira , Lacus, Andrew Waltfeld, Murrue Ramius, and the rest of the crew of the Archangel board the Archangel once again, saving Cagalli from a forced marriage to Yunna Seyran, secretly a member of Logos, along the way. Not siding with anybody, they try to discover the truth behind all the chaos now developing, but it finds Kira and Athrun fighting on opposite sides once again.

Cagalli tries to find a way to save her country from the path it has now taken with the help of Kira while Lacus returns to the Plants to try to discover the truth behind Chairman Durandal, who is trying to kill her. As Athrun finds himself fighting against Kira and Cagalli, he struggles to find the answer to his question from the previous war: What is it that we should be fighting for, and how exactly are we supposed to go about it?
