Kira Yamato: The Record

Born on: May 2007

Gundam Seed:

At the beginning of Gundam Seed, Kira Yamato attended the Heliopolis Technical college, where he helped as a research assistant due to his computer science intellect. He is immediately recognized as a first generation coordinator, which poses little threat since he lived on the neutral colony Heliopolis, Orb's counter part. During the Bloody Valentine War, Kira stumbles upon the GAT-X105 Strike during a ZAFT attack on an Earth Alliance base hidden from the knowledge of Heliopolis's inhabitants. Worried about his friends, Kira ends up configuring and later piloting the Gundam when Murrue Ramius proves incapable of handling the system. Unfortunately, this causes Kira to fight against his childhood friend, Athrun Zala, a fight which unintentionally leads to the destruction of Heliopolis. With the retreat of Athrun and the rest of the Le Creuset team, Kira ends up on the ship Archangel with his friends.

Kira's fateful meeting with ZAFT's top idol Lacus Clyne occurred there shortly after. It was a fateful and unexpected turn of events that would lead to a powerful force neither were aware of at that time. Kira released Lacus Clyne to Athrun, refusing to allow the Archangel crew hold her as a hostage and leverage to shield off ZAFT forces. Despite Athrun's wish for Kira to come with them, Kira stays with the archangel to protect his friends.

Kira was court martailed by the archangel's senior officers, but the charges against were dropped since he was still considered a civilian and not a petty officer. During all of this, Fllay Allster, fiancee of Kira's friend Sai, traumatizes Kira's spirit for not saving her father. This scar follows him to the very end of the first war, when he was unable to save Fllay herself.

Kira was given the chance to leave the archangel along with his friends when they rendevoued with the 8th Fleet of the Earth Alliance, but when his friends enlist, including a revengeful Fllay, Kira decides to enlist as well. The Archangel engages Le Creuset's team and other ZAFT forces a couple times until they end up in the North African Desert, where Kira reencounters the strong-headed Cagalli Yula Athha. Kira helps her out, and they both encounter ZAFT's Desert Tiger, Andrew Waltfeld. Kira takes an admiration toward Andrew Waltfeld and ends up pained when he defeated him later in battle, believing he had died.

Kira leaves with the Archangel to the Alaskan base JOSH-A, but is attacked once again by the Le Creuset team en route, this time, tragically. Athrun's comrade Nicol is killed by Kira, and then Athrun kills Kira's friend Tolle. Enraged at the other, they end up trying to kill the other. The end results in Athrun self destructing his Gundam, flying out of it just in time, with Kira's Gundam.

Kira awakens very injured and disoriented to find himself in the care of none other than Lacus Clyne. During his stay, he gets very close with Lacus as they talk about the times and how they wished things were. Kira decides what he should be fighting for and that he should fight even if he may not have much influence. Lacus supports him, giving him access to the ZGMF-X10A Freedom, so that he could fight for what he believed in. With this new sword, he leaves to find the Archangel and save it in JOSH-A

The Archangel defects to the nation Orb, leaving the Earth Alliance permanently. In Orb, Kira comes up against the Calamity, the Forbidden, and the Raider, but receives help from an unlikely source, Athrun Zala. Kira and Athrun confront each other to talk things through, and Kira convinces Athrun and Dearka to come with them to find what they should be fighting for together. They leave Orb just as Onogoro is self detonated. Once in space, Kira escorts Athrun to the Plants so that Athrun can confront his father. Kira ends up saving the Eternal, the ship Lacus and Andrew Waltfeld stole from Zaft, to find Athrun with Lacus and a very much alive Andrew Waltfeld. With the Eternal and Kusanagi by the side of the Archangel, they create the Three Ship Alliance.

In the final stages of the war, Kira discovers that he is really the Ultimate Coordinator, the only coordinator to survive the artificial womb. Kira also learns that he is the son of Ulen and Via Hibiki and that Cagalli is his sister. Le Creuset reveals much of this to him. Kira ends up killing Le Creuset after the death of Fllay, ending the source beind much of the conflict. He is found by Athrun and Cagalli at the end floating in space.
