Gundam Seed
At the beginning of Gundam Seed, Lacus Clyne is introduced as teen pop idol of the Plants and an inspiration to ZAFT soldiers, as well as the fiancee of Athrun Zala, son of Chairman Patrick Zala. At first, she is seen as a far off character that is only seen on a television screen. This was of course due to her stardom, but also because her father, Siegel Clyne, was the Supreme Council Chairman. Her engagement to Athrun Zala was purely political, and was meant to represent a shining beacon for the Plants citizens. Athrun and Lacus do get along and do seem to care deeply for each other, but neither are in love.
Lacus's fate begins to follow down a different path when she boards the space vessel Silverwind to Junius Seven as a memorial representative. Her ship is attacked by an Earth Alliance Fleet unrighteously, and the crew do everything in their power to make sure that she lives. She is found in a lifepod amongst the ruins of the Silverwind by the pilot of the Strike, Kira Yamato, who brings her upon the Archangel, and Earth Alliance ship. Except for Kira, who treated Lacus very well, the crew of the Archangel give her a subtle unwelcoming, especially Fllay, who ends up threatening to kill her if ZAFT doesn't cease fire on her father's ship.
Lacus is later smuggled off the archangel with the help of Kira, who refuses to allow the Archangel to use Lacus as leverage and a shield against ZAFT forces. She is reunited with Athrun Zala and then taken back to the Plants.
Lacus is later seen tending Kira's wounds after Kira's near death duel against Athrun Zala. During this time, Lacus heals Kira's wounds, both physical and emotional, causing the two to grow very close to one another. Lacus shows Kira the warmth and kindness he had been without for so long. She eventually supply's Kira with a better sword when he is resolved to do something about the war without siding with anyone. Lacus starts to believe in Kira and his cause, and starts to fight in her own way. Her first step was giving Kira access to ZAFT's new model the ZGMF-X10A Freedom, which also exiles her from ZAFT. ZAFT labels Lacus a traitor and tries to hunt her down, but they only succeed in assassinating her father.
Lacus ends up hiding out, making speeches to the Plants over the radio to try and convince them of the truth with the help of Martin DaCosta and the Clyne Faction. Athrun ends up finding her, confronting her of her traitorous actions. Lacus quite harshly rebukes Athrun, asking him what he was fighting for and revealing to Athrun that Kira was still alive. She gives Athrun an ultimatum to become her enemy and do the right thing and seek out Kira. During their meeting, a radical faction of the Plants tries to assassinate Lacus, but she and Athrun are saved by DaCosta. She thanks Athrun for helping her and leaves with the Clyne Faction, leaving Athrun to his thoughts.
With the help of DaCosta and the Clyne Faction, Lacus makes numerous speeches over the radio in remote locations as Zaft tries to hunt her down. She tries to lead the people to understand that Coordinators are not the next step in evolution because they can't even sustain their future. Thus, the Naturals are their brothers and sisters, and Patrick Zala's solution to the conflict is a wrong one. However, she gets cut off by Patrick Zala. The Clyne Faction and Andrew Waltfeld take the Eternal and flee. DaCosta, at the request of Lacus, saves Athrun and brings him to the Eternal. Together, they all flee towards the Archangel and Kusanagi, but meet heavy fire along the way. Kira ends up saving them and then leading them to the other two ship of the Three Ship Alliance.
In the final battle, the eternal makes a huge contribution to ending the conflict, and Lacus makes an emotional speech that causes her to access her Seed Factor.
